"There is a Pebble Mine is every back yard - in every corner of the world. Pebble Mine's threat to Bristol Bay's salmon fishery is representative of a myriad of environmental issues... and the assemblance and fight by local communities to act to protect their way of life. In more instances than not, the fate of our greatest natural assets rests on active community engagement in local issues. That is what this Tahoe Red Gold event is all about." - David Lass (Director of Trout Unlimited Truckee)
Bristol Bay is our back yard....
* Preserving the integrity of our - nature & outdoors - beautiful terrain - mountains - lakes & rivers - wildlife - amazing people - community living - sporting - surfing - skiing - riding - mountaineering - fishing - hiking - biking - climbing - adventures - & on and on - is integral on a world wide level - Bristol Bay is our back yard.
* Bristol Bay is home to the largest wild pacific salmon population in the world. It is our sustainable wild and healthy salmon fishery & supply source.
* According to the US Environmental Protection Agency mining is the largest source of toxic pollution in the nation. The pollutants from the proposed mine, all mines, seep into our air, land and water.
* Gold (behind copper) is the driving incentive for the proposed mine, yet the fact remains: the number one use of gold in the world is jewelry; there is currently enough existing - already mined gold to supply the jewelry industry for several generations to come.
